The Ultimate Medellin Colombia Bachelor Party Guide 2017
Say it with me…There’s no party like a Colombia bachelor party. Once more…this time with more gusto por favor….There’s no bachelor party like a Colombia Bachelor party.
That’s Right – Forget Vegas!
No…As a matter of fact, forget Vegas, Montreal, New Orleans, New York, and the whole lot of overplayed, overpriced, cliche bachelor party destinations. Bellbottoms, Charlie Sheen, Laser Pointers, The Macarena, and The Livestrong Bracelet all had their time in the sun, but now it time for them to grab a tall glass of lemonade and chill in the shade. The same goes for those destinations that have forever dominated the bachelor party scene – chill time has come.
The lame 1-night routine of heading to a strip club, eating at a nice restaurant, and watching a sporting event is dull and outdated. A bachelor party in Medellin is for gentleman who want to raise the bar a few notches. Although it’s only now growing in popularity, Medellin will undoubtably make its way onto everyone’s list of top bachelor party destinations in the world – Just remember where you heard it first.
Why Choose Medellin For Your Bachelor Party?
If you’re reading this page you’re probably 1 of 4 characters – the best man, one of groom’s best friends, the groom himself, or the lucky wife-to-be.
If you’re the best man and you’ve taken on the responsibility of planning your mate’s last hoorah – Good on ya. You’re definitely making strides in the right direction. If you’re the groom and you’re planning your own bachelor party, shame on your groomsmen – kudos to you. You’re obviously a trendsetter since you’re contemplating a Colombia bachelor party. You’re also a standup friend for hosting it in Medellin. Rest assured that those lucky bastards will be talking about your bachelor party for years to come.
If you’re the bride-to-be and you’ve caught wind that the boys are planning your future hubby’s send off in Medellin, you should probably close this page before you’re consumed by envy. Rest assured they’re going to have the time of their lives and we’re going to manage every devilish detail of it.
Okay, so why choose Medellin for a bachelor party…
When choosing a destination for a groom’s last hoorah, it is crucial to choose an interesting and exciting city. Great bachelor parties must offer a fine balance between drunken debauchery and entertaining group activities. The thing that guys love about Vegas as a bachelor party destination is that there is so much variety. In Vegas variety is truly the spice of life. There’s variety in the food, entertainment, accommodation, and not to mention sinful pleasures. A bachelor party in Medellin is no different.
Medellin offers dozens of restaurants, bars, casinos, strip clubs, spas, night clubs, hotels, AirBnB properties, sporting events, tours, and more. Well…there are tons of AirBnB properties, but none quite like our luxury apartments and houses.
Saving Money With A Colombia Bachelor Party
Here’s a universal truth about bachelor parties that I think we can all agree on. The groomsmen always end up spending way more than they anticipated spending.
In a Google Consumer Survey conducted in 2015, about 45% of the people invited to a bachelor party in the US skipped out because they just couldn’t afford the price-tag that came with the big event. A significant benefit of hosting your bachelor party in Medellin is that once your airfare is covered, costs become considerably lower than they would be, were you to have the same party in US or Canada. Although we don’t have exact statistics to back our claim, our past guests say that they would have paid at least double or triple in Vegas, New York, or Toronto for the bachelor party they had here in Medellin.
The Euro, Pound, and Dollar go a very long way here in Colombia. At the moment, these currencies are very strong relative to the Colombian peso. Consequently, visitors can afford a lot more – for much less. To put things into perspective, the average price of a pack of cigarettes in the United States is $6.16 ($12.00 in New York) while a pack costs less than $2.00 in Colombia. This price advantage applies to just about every product and service in Medellin – Including Bachelor Parties.
Getting Cheap Flights To Medellin Colombia
Flying to Medellin for a bachelor party may be much cheaper than you think. We recommend that our guests consider flying through Miami if they have the option. The advantage of flying through Miami is that discount airlines like VivaColombia have cheap direct flights to Medellin. A long weekend trip (Thursday to Monday) could run you as little as $215 USD for the return flight. That’s cheaper than the price of a bottle of vodka in most nightclubs in US. Bachelor parties aren’t really a last minute impulse decision, they tend to be planned out in advance, so it’s much easier to secure lower airfares by booking early.
Medellin Weather – The City Of Eternal Spring
Medellin’s weather is damn near perfect. Here we enjoy an average annual spring time temperature of 72º-76º fahrenheit (22º- 24º Celsius). For that reason, Medellin is affectionately dubbed The City of Eternal Spring. Unlike other popular bachelor party cities in North America and Europe that have multiple seasons with varying temperatures, Medellin really only has one season and one temperature – PERFECTº
Sure we get some months of rain, but it isn’t the freezing cold rain that people run from in Toronto and New York. The rainiest months are April, May, September, October and November. However, even when it’s raining, it’s still nice and warm. The rain may affect some daytime outdoor activities, but it doesn’t change the energetic party vibe that Medellin has become known and loved for. Rain or shine, the action goes on in this city.
The Best Time to Have A Bachelor Party In Medellin
Want to turn your Medellin Bachelor Party up a notch? If your schedule permits, we highly recommend booking your trip during one of the city’s most festive periods. The people of Medellin (Paisas as they are called) are known to love a good party. They seem to always have a reason to celebrate and pop some bottles.
Our recommendation for when to plan your bachelor party in Medellin would be during La Feria de Las Flores (The Flower Festival), Colombia Moda (Colombia Fashion Week), and the entire Month of December. During these periods, the city comes alive with a variety of events and parties. The Flower Festival attracts people from all over Colombia and the world. There is always an organized schedule of events, concerts, parades and after parties.
Fashion week is our favourite. Imagine a city that is already ram packed with beautiful people. Now image a city with beautiful people AND countless professional and budding models, designers, and fashion enthusiasts running around! During the day you can fill your eyes, minds, and souls by sitting at the base of a catwalk watching gorgeous models walk by. By night you can mingle with these long-limbed beauties at the classy after parties hosted at nightclubs and hotels around the city
The Christmas season is a big deal here in Medellin. For the entire month of November, citizens decorate their homes and public service workers decorate the streets and parks with Christmas lights. At midnight on November 30th, the city lights up – Literally. It’s the official start to the season. Not only do the Christmas lights get turned on, but there is also a massive, city-wide firework display to welcome the festive month. As the explosions of the firework fade into the night, parties start in every neighbour in the city.
The Paisas – Medellin’s People
The people of Medellin are incredible. Paisas, as they are called here, are characterized as super friendly, welcoming, and hardworking. They are very proud people. Proud of their culture, traditions and above all, their city. The paisa pride is highly contagious. Chances are, you will leave feeling proud that you had the chance to visit the city.
Per capita, the paisa women are arguably the most beautiful in the world. What I mean is that although there are beautiful women in every corner of the world, the average woman in Medellin is exceptionally stunning compared to the average in other cities. They are characterized by long dark hair, curvy bodies and stunning smiles. Just ask any guy who has visited Medellin, the women here are like mythical beings (like beautiful mermaids – with nice legs instead of fins). I’ve been here for well over 7 years, yet every day just walking in the streets, I find myself mumbling “I love this city ” or “This can’t be real”. The single guys in your crew are in for a treat, that’s for sure. For those who are in relationships, just remember – there’s nothing wrong with window shopping.
The Dress Code – What to pack for your Medellin Bachelor Party
Just a heads up, locals don’t wear flip-flops and beach shorts in Medellin – that’s the gringo uniform. However, things are changing and we’re beginning to see more Colombians embracing the northern way by wearing some stylish shorts. There’s nothing wrong with rocking your shorts, but for those of you who want to blend, jeans are the norm here.
It goes without saying that when you go out at night you’ll want to look supa dupa fly. In Medellin, nighttime attire ranges from extremely casual – nice jeans and a t-shirt, to moderately dressed up – jeans, a button-up shirt and a blazer. There’s no need to pack a suit and tie, that’s overkill. Although we mentioned it above, we must to say it again – especially in the context of going out at night. Shorts are a big no-no! We all have the friend in our crew – the one that thinks wearing khaki shorts and a button is dressing up. Just make sure to tell him to pack at least one pair of nice jeans or pants for your nights out on the town.
We recommend packing a nice pair of shorts (or two) for the daytime, a pair of swim shorts for the pool and jacuzzi, 1 or 2 pairs of nice jeans, a few fresh t-shirts, and a few crisp button ups.
Don’t worry, if you don’t have the time to pack a nice wardrobe, there are several malls in Medellin where you can find very nice clothing and shoes. Our favourites are Tesoro, Santa Fe, and Oviedo.
Oh…we nearly forgot one category of clothing – HATS. People wear baseball caps, fedoras and other varieties. The one type of hat that you might want to buy before coming is the Jimmy variety – condoms that is. Here in Medellin it can be very difficult to find the brand and style that you’re accustomed to back home, so make sure you grab a box or two before getting on the plane.
There are tons of Barbershops in Medellin, so getting a clean cut won’t be an issue. If you decide to stay at one of our properties, we offer a convenient Barber-at-Home service. You won’t even have to leave the property. Just choose a time and the barber will go right to the property to get you and the boys all lined up. Imagine pre-drinking and having a barber getting you prepped right before heading out to a party.
Partying in Medellin – Medellin Nightlife
Partying in Medellin is just awesome. There is truly something for everyone and every taste in this city. Whether you like rock, hiphop, reggae, house, salsa, live jazz, or reggaeton, you can find a bar or club playing it. Although there’s something going on every night of the week, the biggest party nights in Medellin are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays – Saturdays being the busiest. Because many locals have to work on Saturdays, they tend to reserve their money and energy for Saturday nights. At nightclubs, people are very approachable, but like back home, they respond better if they are approached respectfully.
Colombians love to dance. Dancing is a big part of their culture. Many will even say that dancing is in their blood. From the time they are children, they are encouraged to dance at family gatherings and parties. At clubs where salsa, bachata, reggaeton and other latin genres are played, the women expect the men to ask them to dance. Asking a woman to dance in Colombia isn’t as big an accomplishment as it would be in Canada and the US – here it’s part of their culture. For that reason, it’s a lot easier to start interacting with women in a club/bar if you have at least average dancing skills. For men, knowing some basic salsa and bachata steps can go a long way when partying in Medellin.
Most clubs start filling up around 11pm and stay open until about 3:30-4:00am. However, as the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens. There are several after-hour clubs like Palmahia and Fahrenheit Discoteca that keep the party rocking until the sun comes up.
Around Parque Lleras and Provenza, Medellin’s most trendy nightlife zone, many clubs and bars have a cover charge ranging from about 5000 to 30,000 pesos ($1.75 – $10USD). Like the cost of cover, drink costs can vary significantly depending on how posh the place is. Tipping isn’t obligatory but it will definitely get you better service from your waiter/waitress. We recommend 10 or 15% tips. In general, the dress code in Medellin clubs isn’t very strict. However, on thing that is frowned upon is when a man tries to get into a club with shorts. We recommend nice jeans or slacks.
The drinking culture is a little different than in North America. Whereas in Canada and the US many people crowd the bar to order one off mixed drinks, Colombians buy bottles to share with their friends. Bottles typically come accompanied by small bowls of snacks like popcorn and half ripe mango slices. At most venues things work on a first come first serve basis, so tables tend to get taken pretty quickly as people vie for prime real estate. When the more popular clubs get filled up, it can be tough to get in and you might have to wait for quite a while before being granted entrance.
For groups that want to spend more time partying and less time worrying about cover charges, guest lists, and seating, we offer a VIP Entertainment package that takes care everything. We stay up to date and connected with the hottest bars and clubs so you never miss a beat. All you have to do is show up.
Regardless of whether we take you there or you decide to go alone, check out our list of the 10 hottest nightclubs in Medellin.

Money Matters in Medellin – How much will you spend?
There’s no need to empty your bank account before coming to Medellin. Here in Colombia, the peso is the official and only readily accepted currency. We recommend using an ATM once you get here rather than bringing stacks of dollars with you. You can also prepay for your accommodation, transportation, tours, and other services prior to arriving in Medellin, so as to reduce the amount of money you will need while in Colombia. If you decide to bring a bunch of dollars or euros, there are trusted money exchanges in the shopping centers and other central locations.
How much should you expect to spend?
You probably already know the answer to this one. It all depends on how much you want to ball out.
Transportation in Medellin
Getting around Medellin can be quite easy due to the many transportation options available. There is an excellent public transportation system including a modern metro and a cable car that goes high up into the mountains. Taxis and Ubers are also readily available. However, if you decide to take a taxi, we suggest using an app like EasyTaxi or calling a reputable taxi company by phone. The reason is, we constantly hear sad-stories of people forgetting their phones, wallets and other valuable belongings in taxis and not being able to get them back. By using an app or calling, you’ll be able to know the taxi driver’s name and his license plate – just in case disaster strikes. Since you’ll be here for a bachelor party, it’s highly possible that you’ll be drinking and getting a little more out of control than normal. We suggest to err on the side of caution and leave valuables at home. It is not necessary, expected or customary to tip taxi drivers in Medellin. If you decide to give them a tip, that is completely at your discretion.
The other way to get around, and the one we highly recommend, is our Private Luxury Transportation service. You’re going to have several unpredictable days, nights, and morning afters, so jumping into random taxis at all hours of the day might not be the best solution for you. Instead, we’ll have a dedicated set of wheels with a driver who will wait for you at each stage of your adventure — and, if necessary, help you get out of a tricky situation or two.
With the private transport service, there is no need to compromise on style or safety. Our vehicles are fully insured and the drivers are Medellin locals who know the city like the back of their hands. You’re here for a short period of time, so we want you to make the most of it. We don’t want you making useless circles around the city with a disoriented Uber driver looking for a restaurant or nightclub. Nor do we want you being ripped off by a dishonest taxi driver who took you on an hour-long scenic journey of the city, just to get 2 blocks away.
Our vehicles are spacious and can accommodate large groups of up to 17, so there’s no need to split up and have to take multiple cabs or Ubers every time you want to go out.
Medellin Bachelor Party Safety
Years ago Medellin was considered to be one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Ever since the death of the notorious drug-lord Pablo Escobar, it has gone through a massive transformation to become one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world.
Like everywhere in the world, there are rough neighbours that should be avoided. In any case, you’re here in Medellin for a fun bachelor party, not to film a documentary on gang life – so there’s no need to put yourself at risk.
With that being said, there are a few safety tips that we need to mention. Here is Medellin there is a popular saying “No Dar Payapa” or “Don’t Give Papaya”. In short it means, don’t give criminals the opportunity to take advantage of you by showing them what you have to offer. In other words, don’t show off your wealth and/or put yourself in situations where criminals can thrive. We know that this can be a little more challenging when your crew is out drinking and having a good time.
This was taken directly from what is called The Papaya Manual
- Do not leave your cell phone at tables or easy places to steal
- Do not leave bags open or in easy to steal places.
- Do not receive help or things from strangers, distrust!
- Do not display expensive belongings.
- If you are going to drink, make sure that you are accompanied or drink in moderation.
- Do not buy from street vendors.
- Always ask for the taxi service or Uber, do not drink on the street
